Yard Sale on Campus Doubles as Charitable Fundraiser
Staff and faculty donated clothing, shoes, and accessories to a campus yard sale; all the proceeds were directed to Full Sail’s food pantry.
Full Sail University recently held a yard sale to benefit the on-campus food pantry, the Full Pantry. Facilitators of the yard sale collected donations of clothing, shoes, and fashion accessories from staff and faculty in the weeks leading up to the yard sale. Then, the Full Sail University Orlando Health Fortress acted as a pop-up thrift store for the two-day event with tables of items spread throughout the space, giving students, faculty, and staff the chance to shop. The Hangr, Full Sail’s merch shop, also contributed to the sale via a pop-up shop. Each donated item was priced at $1, and all the proceeds from the yard sale and the Hangr – totaling more than $1,700 – went to the Full Pantry, which provides resources for students in need of food assistance.
After the event, the leftover clothing and shoes were donated to Out of the Closet, a local thrift store that helps raise funds and awareness for AIDS research, as well as providing HIV prevention and treatment services.
“The yard sale has truly been a win-win,” shared Deana Celebre, yard sale facilitator and Full Sail’s Senior Director of Student Services. “Full Sail employees have the opportunity to clean out their closets, students and staff have the opportunity to refresh their wardrobes without breaking the bank, and our community wins as all the unsold items are donated to a local charity. Plus, all of our proceeds benefit the Full Pantry.”
