On June 6 and 7, the Full Sail Armada production crew facilitated the JJets Madden Championship held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The two-day gaming competition was part of JJets Flight School, an event sponsored by Under Armour and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Twenty-two of the nation’s top high school wide receivers were on hand to learn strategies on transitioning from high school to college, and the tournament was a highlight of their time on the campus.

The athletes first competed against each other in a bracket-style Madden competition. The winner, Zion Legree of Pensacola, Florida, faced off against Justin Jefferson and defeated him in the final match.

The Full Sail Armada crew helped produce and stream the event. Full Sail Armada Production Coordinator Garrett Gajewski headed up the student production team. It included Quinn Sherr (2024 Sportscasting and James Irvin (2025 Sportscasting grad) who teamed up to provide commentary of the action. Current students Aiden Bentz (Game Development) and Jefferson Vasquez (Film) also got lots of hands-on experience assisting with technical aspects of the production.

“Everyone that came in was blown away by Quinn and James,” said Sari Kitelyn, Director of Esports & Project Development. “Their voices [were] booming and echoing, and they were just casting for broadcast. But it brought in everyone around them because people were so excited and amped over the fact that this level of casting was being done [for] a Madden tournament in a room on IMG's campus. They got so much love and praise for the energy that they brought to these matches. Aiden and Jefferson also helped run the entire thing from start to finish, and they were fantastic.”

“I think we got some people who maybe were not super familiar with esports a little more attuned [to] and interested in what we bring to the table,” said Quinn Sherr. “I always love getting the opportunity to work with my Armada family.”

According to Sari, the Armada crew got lots of positive feedback from the other companies there, including the NFL, ESPN, and EA Sports.

“Everything was high class, top-notch, very well done,” she said. “To know that our setup, broadcasts, graphics, and talent… completely matched that same level of professionalism and that same level of pristine experience was perfect.”

Because of how well the crew handled this type of event away from Full Sail’s campus, she hopes there will be more opportunities like it in the future.

“What gaming and esports offer to any audience is an added point of interaction for [the] crowd… The more that we can show [gaming to] these traditional entertainment spaces, the more they see the beauty of esports and gaming, and the more our students and grads are really amplified out into more of these spaces.”
