Caris Baker
Caris Baker is a multidisciplinary Art Director, Technical Artist, and game developer whose career spans commercial game development, XR, simulation, and independent arcade publishing. She is the Co-Owner and Artist at Astro Crow, an independent game studio specializing in original arcade-exclusive titles and commercial-grade arcade cabinets, including Throwback! Jai-Alai Heroes. At Astro Crow, Caris leads visual direction, game art, branding, cabinet design, and creative production while co-managing studio operations.
Previously, Caris worked within Unity Technologies’ Artificial Intelligence organization, where she designed and delivered synthetic datasets and dataset generation pipelines used to train computer vision models. Prior to Unity, she was a key contributor at Walter P Moore, where she designed and developed virtual reality tools and immersive experiences, and helped advance CAD-to-Unity data transformation pipelines for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. Through public speaking engagements and co-authored research, she became a recognized advocate for VR adoption in AEC workflows.
In 2021, Caris spoke at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) on the panel “!Games: Technical Art Outside of Games,” highlighting the application of game development skills beyond entertainment. In parallel with her studio work, she maintains an independent art practice under Caris Captures, creating illustration, caricature, and character work.
In recognition of her contributions to global gaming culture, Caris was inducted into The Walter Day Collection of Video Game and Pinball Trading Cards in 2019.
